Bespoke 5 berth Crafter Conversion
Here's something different! Getting into the big stuff now.
This is an XLWB VW Crafter, supplied by the customer for conversion. We turned this ex-delivery van into a 5/6 berth camper van, with a quad rear bunk bed and travel seating for 5 passengers.
She sports a Skyline pop top with 150W solar panel, built in twin Transit Custom seats on custom fabricated base mounts.
Both front cab seats swivel to the rear to give a cosy 5 seat area around the table. Large privacy windows are fitted to the front area with twin side windows between the beds and a pair on the rear doors.
The rear of the van comprises a massive double bunk bed with the top bed split into twin singles split by a central divide.
The 5th bed is in the pop top.
Also installed a Fiamma, wind-out awning on custom brackets due to the pop-top taking up the space where the usual Crafter brackets should go:- never straight forward is it?
Nice new leather steering wheel to boot.
Also installed is a 360degree OMNIView camera system to assist with parking and maneuvering the beast and the rear doors carry a spare wheel and ladder for access to the custom built roof rack.
Inside are twin 100Ah AGM leisure batteries, maintained by a CTEK battery to battery charger with additional electric hook up if available.
The lighting consists of RGBIC strip lighting in the ceiling, ceiling downlights, bed night lights, step lighting all to set up whatever atmosphere you require.
The furniture is custom designed to the client's brief and then hand made in laminated baltic birch plywood. The kitchen unit houses the sink and 3 burner hob and uses clever storage drawers to make sure that no space is wasted.
It's been a really fun project and one that the customer will be using for many happy holidays to come.
